3rd International Conference on “Innovations in Agriculture to Ensure Food Security in Changing Climate” was held at IUB

The 3rd International Conference on “Innovations in Agriculture to Ensure Food Security in Changing Climate” with a theme “Climate Change Threats to Agriculture” was held at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan, on December 7, 2023. This event was jointly organized by “International Center for Climate Change, Food Security & Sustainability (ICCFS)”, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan & “International Center for Climate and Environment Sciences (ICCES)” Beijing, China.
World renowned scientists from Canada and China participated in the conference to discuss about interlinked food, fuel and financial crises that have aggravated poverty and food insecurity, particularly in the developing world like ours. International food prices have surged in the past half-decade, making food less affordable to many, and drawing attention to the deeper structural flaws in the global food production system. These delegates from Memorial University Canada include Prof. Dr. Ian Sutherland; Prof. Dr Mumtaz Akhtar Cheema; Dr. Sonja Knutson, Dr. Kimberly Jarvi; Dr. Shaukat Ali, Center for Global Child Health, Sick-Kids Hospital, Toronto University, Canada; Dr Alamgir from University of Guelf, Canada and Prof. Dr. Zhaohui LIN, Director, ICCES, Beijing, China. This event was presided by Prof. Dr. Naveed Akhtar, Vice Chancellor, IUB-Pakistan and Patrons includes Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain Turabi, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture & Environment; Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum, Patron CCSC/Dean Faculty of Chemical & Biological Sciences; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aown Sammar Raza, Chairman, Agronomy, FA&E, IUB. Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum in her introductory remarks described IUB unique initiative of its kind for creating a network of association between academia, research organizations, non-government organizations, private sector, government departments, and industrial partners in the form of Consortium on Climate Change, Sustainability and Conservation. The Focal Person, Prof. Dr. Wajid Nasim Jatoi, Director, ICCFS appreciated all the international delegates for sparing their time for this event and travelled all the way from Canada to Pakistan for initiating several joint ventures such as collaboration, capacity building and fruitful discussion. At the end, in the concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain Turabi, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture & Environment also acknowledged the great contributions of international delegates from Memorial University, Canada and Sick-Kids Hospital, Toronto University, Canada.
