International Webinar on Launch of AgMIP-MENA

An International Webinar on Launch of AgMIP-MENA (Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP), is a distributed network to research future climate change impact in agriculture from field to farm to globe, link climate, crop and agricultural economics, provide decision support to farmers and policy makers with science-based adaptation and mitigation strategies to ensure future food and nutritional security (science with an impact). AgMIP MENA (The Middle East and North Africa) Regional Platform being organized (February 16, 2023; 09:00 AM – 12:00 PM-GMT+1) by The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), a member of CGIAR (Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers), is a non-profit agricultural research institute that aims to improve the livelihoods of the resource-poor across the world's dry areas. In this meeting lot of scientists & researchers from NASA, UN, FAO, INRA, ICBA, IAV, KAUST, SQU, Mediterranean Europe, AOAD, ACSAD etc participated. Dr Wajid Nasim Jatoi (Director, International Center for Climate Change, Food Security & Sustainability-ICCFS & Focal Person CCSC) also represent ICCFS/CCSC-The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), Pakistan & has given the feedback in this International Forum at world level for possible future initiatives & joint-ventures between different stakeholders around the globe. Furthermore, the launch of AgMIP MENA regional platform is important due to the lack of coordinated efforts on modeling cropping and farming systems, especially in the face of climate change and water scarcity. With this launch, there is the possibility of connecting this platform with the other regional and global platforms. AgMIP MENA can be well connected with the AIM4Climate partnership led by the United States and the United Arab Emirates to bring climate-smart approaches to agriculture around the world.
