National Workshop on “Strategies for Climate Change Mitigation in Pakistan"'

National Workshop on “Strategies for Climate Change Mitigation in Pakistan: National Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Technical Working Group” hosted by Acted Office Islamabad, along with the national and international stakeholders, attend a workshop. The workshop was cantered on strategies for climate change mitigation in Pakistan, with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and action. The agenda of the workshop was multifaceted, addressing key areas essential for building resilience and fostering sustainable development in the face of climate-related challenges. The sessions of the workshop revolved around the introduction of National Emergency Operation Centres by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), followed by discussions on climate change and mitigation strategies with a special emphasis on the roles of academia, and a comprehensive review of Terms of Reference (ToRs) of National DRR Technical Working Group. Additionally, participants also sketched a draft of the National Action Plan for 2024-25. The National Speaker Prof. Dr. Wajid Nasim Jatoi, working as a Focal Person in Consortium on Climate Change, Sustainability and Conservation (CCSC/ https://ccsc.iub.edu.pk/), The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, provides valuable guidance to the National DRR Technical Working Group on navigating the complexities of climate change. Participation in the workshop spanned across esteemed entities such as UN agencies, NDMA, National and International organizations, representatives from academia, the Pakistan Humanitarian Forum (PHF), and various other humanitarian actors with aim of deeper understanding of existing frameworks and collaboration opportunities for advancing climate resilience and disaster risk reduction initiatives in Pakistan.
